Can I start my beginner in piano lessons using a portable keyboard until I see how well they will do?

Teachers agree that in order to give your child the best opportunity to succeed at piano lessons you must give them a suitable piano for practice.
- It must have 88 full size weighted keys with dynamic (soft to loud) expression control
- It must be tuned to A-440 pitch & have quality tone
- It must have pedals (at least a sustain & soft)
Portable keyboards do not provide any of these 3 most basic needs. People who are reluctant to invest in a piano right away should consider renting an instrument for some trial period. The cost to rent a suitable instrument is often less than buying a portable keyboard - & when rental credit is applied to the purchase price, the total investment is smaller.
You can help ensure success for your piano student when you give them the proper tools.
