When many people hear Yamaha they think of electronic equipment, boats or motorcycles -- the fact is that Yamaha started with musical instruments! In 1887 a watchmaker named Torokusu Yamaha was called upon by a school in Hamamatsu to repair a reed organ made in America. The repair was successful -- excited by the new technology, he began making organs. In 1900 he ventured to America & studied pianos - and began making his own. In 1904 Yamaha won an Honorary Grand Prize for his piano at the Worlds Fair in St. Louis - and since has won countless awards for pianos. Though the company has diversified over the years -- it all started with keyboard instruments. Actually, when you look at the image below, which is featured on all Yamaha products -- you should know that this symbol is actually three tuning forks, used to tune pianos -- this symbolizes Yamaha's beginning, as well as their commitment to the future of music. Artists from all backgrounds, from classical to contemporary trust Yamaha pianos to be their instrument - and you can trust Foster Family Music to support your new Yamaha piano for generations.
